Raison d’etre
Why a blog focused on Digital Forensics?
Digital Forensics is challenging. Forensics methodologies and the cases we have dealt with are some of the most interesting and exciting pieces of work we do. Through Checkmate we intend to share our knowledge, experiences and forensics travails.
In India, the idea of a formal forensics methodology is just beginning to sink in. And people need to know why they should not simply start searching around for files in a suspect’s hard disk. We want to spread awareness.
Why did we call it Checkmate?
Chess is an art of analysis and so is Digital Forensics and Incident Response. The attacker has usually tried to do all he/she can to cover all possible tracks. It is up to the forensics analyst to carefully handle the evidence, acquire the images, search through them for traces of wrongdoing, and then present them to the client or in a court of law. There is an opening, a middlegame, and an endgame, hopefully ending with us getting the better of the opponent.
